Cupertino's events calendar

Cupertino runs a busy community calendar, and many rental requests come from organizers rather than contractors. There are cultural festivals, school fundraisers, sports tournaments and neighborhood block parties. Memorial Park on Stevens Creek Boulevard hosts the larger festivals, Creekside Park and Jollyman Park host weekend gatherings, and streets in neighborhoods such as Garden Gate and Rancho Rinconada close for block parties.

On the construction side, Cupertino's older ranch homes are steadily being rebuilt, especially in the Monta Vista and Seven Springs areas, and the Stevens Creek corridor has commercial projects.

From Mountain View

Cupertino is south of Mountain View via Highway 85, Foothill Expressway or Grant Road, and the same team schedules it. For festivals, we usually ask for the site map the city approved, so units go where the organizer and the city expect them. Block parties are simpler, usually one or two units at the edge of the closed street.

Cupertino rules for organizers

Organizers of large community festivals file Cupertino's events and festivals application by February 15 for events in the following July-to-June fiscal year. Other special events go to planning about 30 days ahead, and the application asks how restrooms, ADA access and parking will be handled. The city's block party terms say organizers may have to provide portable restrooms at their own expense. For construction, the city allows 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends, but no grading or demolition near homes on weekends.

Cupertino setups

  • One or two standard units for a neighborhood block party.
  • Rows of standard units, ADA-accessible units and handwashing stations for a Memorial Park festival.
  • A standard unit for a Monta Vista rebuild, serviced weekly.
  • A restroom trailer for a school or nonprofit gala at a private site.
